How to Use a Candle For Psychic Answers
The flame can tell you whether a situation is promising or bleak. Here's how to interpret it.
Communication is a two-way street. If I want to receive intuitive guidance, I don’t sit around waiting for lightning to flash or for the appearance of a burning bush. Instead I open the doors of communication with my Spirit Guides so they can show me which path to take.
One way that I do this when I want to know if something is worth my effort is by checking out the flame on a candle. The flicker of the flame — or lack thereof — can provide a sign that helps me determine whether to move forward or whether a situation I’m in is a dead end street. When I’m confused about how to respond to a certain situation, I light a candle and look to the flame for a message about what to do next.
There is actually a name for this practice. Using flames for psychic insight is called pyromancy or sometimes referred to as fire divination. There is evidence of this practice dating way back to the 1300s in ancient Greece. During the Renaissance period, it was actually outlawed and considered one of the forbidden arts — magical techniques that were banned and whose usage even contributed to heinous events such as witch trials around the world. How fire divination works
Now it goes without saying that you have to use some caution if you’re going to use a candle flame to get psychic insight into a situation. For example, you never want to light a candle and leave it unattended particularly if you have children or pets in the house.
Another tip to consider: If you’re going to work with candles, you might want to invest in a candle snuffer. These are tools that basically smother the flame in order to put out a candle. Snuffers are often recommended when you’re doing magical work because blowing out a candle is believed to disperse the energy and intention that you’re working with.
With that general bit of housekeeping out of the way, let’s apply some other metaphysical principles to enhance your results.
While it’s perfectly fine to use any candle, purple candles are believed to be most effective at enhancing psychic ability, as well as other spiritual matters.
I’ve used candles for psychic work probably on every day of the week for one thing or another, but Monday is perhaps the best day, according to astrology, because it is ruled by the Moon. If the answers you’re looking for can wait a little, consider reading the candle flame on a Monday.
Other factors can aid in your success. If a full moon is approaching, consider waiting until that period, as many people find that they are naturally more intuitive around that time.
How to Read the Flame
Take your candle and go somewhere where you won’t be disturbed. If you have an alter in your home, that’s the ideal place. If not, any place that you find calming will do.
Before you light your candle, think about the situation you want insight on. If you meditate, do a short meditation before you begin. In your mind, set the intention that you receive the guidance you need and thank the Universe (in advance) for providing it.
Now light the candle and study the flame. What you’re looking for is the quality of the flame. Here are a few things to look for:
The more steady the flame, the better.
A strong flame suggests a more positive outcome for your situation than a weak one.
A flame that sputters or flickers out suggests that things may not turn out as well as you would like if you continue along the same path.
White smoke could indicate that spiritual helpers are guiding you along this path so it’s a good path to continue along.
