How to Prepare Energetically for the Uranus Return of the United States
We know from astrology that we're in for a rocky road. Here's how to brace ourselves.
If you pay attention to astrology, you know that Americans are in for a bumpy ride. This month marks Uranus’ entry into Gemini, which is a transit that was in effect during the Revolutionary War, the Civil War and World War II. Looking at the current state of global affairs, it looks like we may be batting four out of four.
One of the reasons we study astrology is so we can have a context for what is happening around us, and, ideally, prepare. If we know the next eight years have the potential to wreak havoc on our nervous systems, here are some habits we can cultivate to protect our peace.
Accept that there will be disruption. We all hear the fever pitch of people arguing their political points and plotting to stop the other side from getting their way. There’s a lot to worry about. The loss of healthcare. Cruel deportations. Then there are the fears of a potential rise in Fascism and fall of Democracy. There is an increase in hateful rhetoric and racism.
Just stop for a minute. I’m not saying that we should accept these things without trying to do something to stop them but I am saying that the astrology suggests that these challenges will not magically go away. And the fight may well be worth it. Most of us agree that the abolishment of slavery was a good thing, but the Civil War had to take place in order to get there. So let’s accept that things might not be so great for awhile and then we can move forward.
Expect to feel more anxiety than those around you. If you’re sensitive to energy, you’re probably going to feel the anxiety surrounding transformative changes more than most. You may have trouble sleeping, find yourself waking up at 3 am, or you may just feel the weight of the collective pain. If you are an empath, you may even be experiencing the emotions of other people around and believe that they are your own.
Psychic protection tip: One way to protect yourself is to close your eyes and focus on your breathing. Then, set the intention that any emotions you feel that don’t belong to you fall away.
Hone your intuition. Obviously intuition is important to me as I have a whole substack devoted to it. But while in good times intuition can be enjoyable and insightful, in dangerous times it can literally save your life. We’ve all heard stories of people who avoided harm because they trusted their gut. In a dangerous world, being able to recognize that small, still voice amidst all the chaos and the noise can help you avoid getting swept up in the madness. Instead of waiting for internet psychics to tell you what’s to come, tune into your own intuition.
Here’s an exercise: Pull a tarot card in the morning to predict a major news event of the day. Write down any messages or impressions that you get. At the end of the day, review the top news stories of the day and see if your morning tarot interprentation makes sense.
Learn how to breathe. Most people take shallow breaths, which does not allow our bodies to take in as much oxygen as we ideally need. Breathing shallowly also promotes anxiety. Just by sitting still and breathing deeply for a few minutes, you’ll feel yourself start to relax. One of the reasons meditation is so effective is because there is a heavy focus on slow and deep breathing.
When you breathe, the idea is to breathe from your belly rather than your chest.
Your belly should rise and fall when your breathe, while your chest should remain still.
It’s also helpful to pay attention to your breath. When you focus on your breathing you are present to the moment. That’s where your intuition lives because you become aware of the sensations and messages that come to you in the moment.
Use grounding crystals. Hematite is what I turn to when I’m anxious because it keeps me calm. Other grounding crystals include red jasper, smoky quartz and agate. If you’re worried about your well-being or safety, look to crystals such as obsidian and tourmaline for protection. Since you’ll want crystal protection when you’re out and about in the world, consider wearing crystal jewelry such as bracelets or necklaces.
Practice candle magic to calm yourself down. Light a blue or lavender candle and set the intention that worries be released. While you can do this any time, a good time to do it is at a full moon since that is an optimal time to let go of things you no longer want. If you feel anxiety pile on in the coming months, give this practice a try.
